Questions and Answers:
Q) Why did you decide to have Shortcuts installed rather than use a paper based system?
I have worked in both types of salons before, ones with Shortcuts and ones without. Having Shortcuts was an easy decision. Being organised when running a business is critical, and Shortcuts does that all for you. It also helped eradicate any early teething problems new salons might encounter. There is no comparison a salon needs Shortcuts like it needs scissors.
Q) Would it have been easier to postpone buying a system until the credit crunch and recession have been and gone?
Quite simply no, that was not an option. We opened in April 2008 and had Shortcuts from the start. This has allowed us to monitor all the major factors faced by any new or existing business before it becomes an issue. Shortcuts also helps us in delivering the very best customer experience for every single client. All the information it stores it is invaluable, making every client visit personal and intimate.
Q) In harder economic times does Shortcuts save and make your business money?
It saves and makes money all the way. Yes, there is an initial investment, but the returns Shortcuts delivers really are quite remarkable. Shortcuts has saved and made me thousands of pounds.
Q) How did you set your targets for your first 6 months in business, and how did Shortcuts help you achieve these targets? Would this have been possible with a paper based system?
Each team member has a weekly target based on services, products and treatments. Shortcuts make it so easy by looking at employees performance and getting an idea of what’s going well and what needs more work. By having this information it allows us to pick up on training issues the team may have and we can then work on making improvements in this area.
To try and monitor this with a paper based system would take hours and hours each week, with Shortcuts you press a button. With Shortcuts it’s a win-win situation for both the salon and the team’s personal development. It’s all about growing the business and ourselves and Shortcuts does just that.
